Blogging

Engage. Advertise. Grow.

Blogging is the process of writing regular articles and stories to publish to your website and the world wide web. While the subject of your blogs can be just about anything you’d like, it’s a good idea to make sure they’re entertaining, informative, instructive, or a combination. A blog should give your readers something of value, and many well written blogs answer a specific question.

Many businesses don’t bother with blogging or writing regular articles because they feel like nobody reads them, anyway. Sure, this may be true. But it could be because they’re writing about the wrong things. Or it could simply be because they aren’t generating enough activity around their blogs in one way or another.

Even if not very many people read your blogs for one reason or another, they’re still great for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and your website’s search engine ranks.

Imagine for a moment that your potential customers are fish swimming up a river, and your business is on the river bank trying to catch those fish. Every blog your company writes is another baited net you’re hanging into the river – and the more nets you cast, the more likely you are to catch fish. The key part is writing about things that your potential customers would find valuable and are actively searching for. Doing some research on keywords and your potential customer’s search intent is really helpful in this regard.

Your website’s SEO is also positively affected by blog writing because it helps with crawl rate and crawl “budget.”

To quickly summarize what we mean, Google ‘crawls’ the world wide web frequently, looking for changes to people’s websites. They store a copy of everyone’s websites in what is called the Google Index, which is really similar to an index at your local library. When you search for something online, you’re comparing what you search for to Google’s index – it is essentially scanning it’s collection of sites to see what best matches your search query.

So, how does that have any effect on your website’s SEO? Well, when Google crawls websites looking for information, it takes up resources. While Google is a very large company, they still don’t have unlimited resources. That means they can’t send out an infinite amount of ‘crawlers’ to look for new content on people’s websites. Instead, they have to ‘budget’ their crawlers. When a crawl is done of your website, and it finds nothing new, it considers that crawl to be a wasted crawl. To conserve resources and ‘budget,’ Google makes a note to wait longer before it crawls your website again. On the other hand, if Google crawls your website and find new content, it makes a note to come back sooner the next time (since it wasn’t a wasted trip). Not only does Google appreciate not making a trip to your website for nothing, they also highly value new content over old content. So, you’d be smart to not only blog, but to blog as regularly as possible.

Lastly, on the SEO front, every blog you write grows your website’s footprint. The larger your website, the more of a driving force you are on search engines.

The only exception would be if you’re reusing content on multiple pages – don’t do that! Google knows when content is reused and can potentially penalize you for doing so.

Another great part about blogging is that it is a form of passive marketing. You only have to write a blog once, and it gives you traffic and potentially even leads for what is essentially forever. So, the effort is front-end loaded, at which point it becomes passive. Who doesn’t like potential passive income?

Regular blogs are also important for stationing your business as an authority in your field. They’re like little opportunities to show your potential customers that you know what you’re talking about, and that you’ll likely take good care of them because you’re experienced.

Blogs can be a great way to establish rapport and solidify your brand’s tone, connecting with your customers before you even speak to them for the first time.

LovelyPixels will meet with your team, learn your business, and suggest and write regular blogs to station your company as an authority, help increase your search engine ranks, and help bring in new business.
