Proof on Washington

Branding for Restaurants

A Brand Built on History, Hospitality and a Little Rebellion.

Building a brand for Proof on Washington was bigger than just a restaurant identity.

Located in the heart of Berkeley Springs, WV – their location is intertwined with a robust history and culture. From natural mineral springs with healing powers, early American tourism and George Washington himself – the brand needed to belong to the setting without feeling like a museum.

Our approach to building the Proof on Washington brand took characteristicks of Revolutionary-era America and gave it a modern, whiskey-soaked edge.

Rather than leaning into predictable red, white and blue Americana – LovelyPixels built an identity that feels darker, warmer, masculine and established – as though Proof had been serving travelers on Washington Street for generations.

Historical Influence Takes Lead

Building a full brand system that is anchored in historical relevance, the visual and verbal brand tone are rich with period typography, engraving-inspired imagery, handcrafted textures and recognizable visual language. These elements are balanced against the restaurants low-light atmosphere, stoneware plating, elevated cocktails, approachable comfort food and expansive whiskey collection.

By aligning brand story, design, voice, and digital performance, we helped build not just a restaurant — but a revolutionary brand experience that caters to locals looking for a spot to call their own, and visitors who want modern flare that aligns with historic town charm.

The name itself gave LovelyPixels plenty to work with. “Proof” simultaneously speaks to whiskey, evidence, and the restaurant’s location on Washington Street. That wordplay became the foundation for a larger storytelling system. The Whisk/E/Y Ledger transforms the spirits list into a collection worth exploring. Revolutionary Refreshers give zero-proof drinks their own personality. Menu items, promotions, signage, social content, and even calls to action borrow language from taverns, military dispatches, ledgers, patriots, commanders, and rebellion.

At the center of it all is a bit of manufactured local lore: Washington’s Lost Ledger, an imagined record of the founding father’s favorite meals, taverns, and pours during his visits to Bath. It gives Proof permission to play with history rather than simply recite it – and creates a storytelling device that can continue evolving alongside the restaurant.

The result is a brand system designed to extend far beyond a logo. From menus and wayfinding to cocktails, merchandise, live music, social media, and the guest experience itself, Proof on Washington feels unmistakably like Proof: historically grounded, confidently modern, slightly irreverent, and always ready to pour another chapter.
